Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: I feel discomfort in my knees during my aerobic training sessions. What is the cause of this?
A: It refers to mainly the movement posture and the platform height and contains several points of interest.
Too high platform height:
For beginners we recommend starting at 10cm.
Advanced users are recommended to use it in 20cm height. If the platfrom height is too high, then the knee flexion angle will be too large and may cause high pressure on the patellofemoral joint, up to 7 times the body weight, and may result in injury.
Your knees must be in the same direction as your toes when stepping. Avoid letting your knees turn in.
When performing a squat, try to keep the movement coming from the hip joint and dominate the force of the movement to reduce stress on the front side of the knee joint.
This can happen when landing on the cushioned platform and the front of the foot initially makes contact followed by the rest of the foot. Instead of dropping the heel to the ground, this can increase stress on the knees and ankles by a large amount.
Q: The platforms keep slipping and moving during the aerobic training. What do you do?
A: Several solutions can be applied:
Step Placement Environment for Aerobics: The aerobic step can be placed on a Yoga mat or other non slip surface. Do NOT place on smooth tile surfaces.
Check that all anti-slip pads at the bottom of the Step Up Aerobic are in full contact with the floor.
Check the structure of the clamps before you use them, and make sure they are fixed properly. This will prevent the height components coming loose while you are training with them.
Make sure to wear the right shoes for training: Train in sports shoes with anti-slip soles and sturdy tread. Avoid training in flip-flops, in sandals or even barefoot.
Q: Slip, trip, fall on the platform – how do you prevent ankle sprain while boarding / alighting?
A: Tripping usually is caused by misplacement of the foot or loss of movement timing.
Platform: When stepping onto the platform make sure the entire sole of your foot is on the board and that your heel and toes are not hanging over the edge of the board. It’s very easy to slip off the board or pull your Achilles tendon when stepping up onto the platform.
When getting off the board: Keep a safe distance of about 30cm from the platform in case you get off the board too close to it and bump your lower leg.
Controlling the tempo of movement: Novice jugglers try to make their juggler move too fast. They should instead focus on a steady landing and force production for each movement and then allow the tempo to increase.
Q: I’ve been doing step aerobics for a long time, but I don’t feel any effect and my legs don’t respond?
A: Usually, it’s a problem with the movement pattern or the training intensity:
Incorrect force application: When stepping, don’t just use the calf muscles to exert force; instead, rely on the gluteus maximus and quadriceps to actively generate force. Feel the contraction of the buttocks and the back of the thighs.
Too fast or too slow rhythm: If the rhythm is too fast, it will cause the movements to become distorted and fail to effectively stimulate the muscles; if the rhythm is too slow, it won’t reach the heart rate range for fat burning through aerobic exercise.
Too monotonous movements: You can add side steps, lunge steps, knee lifts, etc. to increase the variety of movements, comprehensively stimulating the gluteal and leg muscle groups, and simultaneously increasing the heart rate.
Q: What types of training are suitable for different heights of the platform?
A: The height of the platform determines the difficulty level and focus of the training:
| Pedal height | Suitable for / Training purpose |
| 10-15cm | Beginners, rehabilitation training, low-impact aerobic |
| 15-20cm | Advanced aerobic, basic strength training |
| Above 20cm (not apply in this aerobic step) | Users with exercise background, focusing on strengthening hip and leg muscles |
| The higher the height, the higher the requirements for the heart and lungs, as well as hip and leg strength and joint stability. It is recommended to gradually increase the height. | |
Q: How do you clean and store the aerobic step and can it be washed with water.
A: The cleaning and storage of utensils is very simple.
DAILY CLEANING of the aerobic step: Using a damp cloth with neutral soap water and wiping all surfaces and bottom of the step. Then dry it thoroughly from water traces. No need to rinse it with water.
Hard stains: When cleaning the grooves of your anti-slip floor, gently rub them with a soft-bristled brush in order to avoid damaging the surface with a steel wool ball.
Storage: Store your storage channels in a cool and dry environment. Avoid direct sunlight as well as very warm temperatures (balcony, near heater etc.) as they can cause the PP to age. For adjustable storage channels it is best to disassemble the parts and store them separately in fear of long lasting pressure on the clamps.
